From The Runway: Metallics Trend 2013

Happy Wednesday everyone!

As pre-announced on Facebook, today’s post is all about how to wear the metallics trend for fall/winter season 2013/14.

The glitter of metal has been en vogue in spring 2012 already, and now it’s back with a breath of fresh air for the colder months! (Wait, do we really need more fresh air in winter?! Oh well, never mind.)

The materials are now thicker and more structured. You will find a lot of leather in gold and silver or fabric with a pattern made of metallized yarn. Also, metal mesh, chail-mail fabric or metallic chains are often used by designers. The pictures above from Paco Rabanne, Prada and Prouenza Schouler are just a few examples.

“Uhm, but I don’t want to look like a robot from 2130!”

Yes, I agree. That wouldn’t look very sexy.

There is a certain danger to styling metallics. Instead of super cool, you can also end up looking like the before mentioned robot or some funky Christmas ornament (not sure what is worse…).

Oh my, I can’t believe it’s mid September already! And looking outside, I think I have to wave goodbye to summer with a weepy heart.

Maybe you know this dull feeling. You realize that you can no longer enjoy being outside whenever you want, and as a consequence, you feel that subliminal anger that you won’t be able to wear your summer clothes until… well, next summer (and next summer seems ages away from now!).

Luckily, there are some things in fashion that seem to be lasting all year long. This year it is the floral print trend.

If you happen to have bought a floral pattern with a darker, saturated background – Congratulations, you can keep on wearing it! Check out my style advice on How To Wear Floral Print Pants All Year Long.

How To Wear Black And Blue Together

From The Runway: Black And Blue Trend

Hello ladies,

It’s about time for a new article on trends for this fall/winter season. And this one is a real shocker for the fashion world: Mixing black and blue has become acceptable and is now even considered chic and trendy!

For many years we have been told that mixing black and blue is a huge fashion faux pas. Together, the two colors are just too dark, too cool and will make you look like a bruise. And besides that, why combine those two if both of them go so well with a lot of other colors?

Why? Because they look GREAT together!

So get over your antiquated fear. Pronto.

When done properly, black and blue can add a very sophisticated dimension to an overall clean and classic look. For fall 2013, designers like Celine, Michael Kors and Rebecca Taylor are just all about it.

Here you go with my style advice on How To Wear Black And Blue.

Spotted: A Chambray Shirt in Zurich

Hi everyone!

Hope you are all having a good week. I am personally super busy right now to develop the website for my personal style consulting services. So busy that I have to remind myself to be disciplined and write something new for my dear readers.

So here you go! Today, I picked a garment that has had a bit of a resurgence recently: the chambray shirt.

You might have seen it in your favourite magazine and thought: “Oh! Denim shirts are back!” (see an example from GLAMOUR here). But, in fact, denim and chambray are not the same thing. Okay, both are made by weaving white cotton yarn through indigo dyed cotton yarn, so they are fairly similar. However, they differ fundamentally in their weaving techniques.

Denim is diagonally woven (check out the inside of your denim jeans and you’ll see!), while chambray is plainly woven. The diagonal weave of denim produces an overall denser and more rigid material, while chambray is much lighter and softer on the skin.
